"I wasn't a LASIK candidate, but ICL freed me of glasses and contacts and I couldn't be happier!"

- Scott F, ClearSight ICL Patient

Freedom & Flexibility

A New EVOlution in Vision Correction

The EVO ICL is the latest generation of vision correction.  It is a biocompatible lens that allows for better night vision and can be removed or exchanged.  It can treat a wide range of prescriptions including astigmatism and is especially effective for higher prescriptions that even LASIK could not help with.  This means that if you’ve been told you’re not a LASIK candidate that the EVO ICL may be an option for you!

Who is a Candidate?

A good candidate for EVO ICL surgery is someone with nearsightedness (myopia), who may or may not also have astigmatism. Additionally, patients that are not candidates for LASIK due to higher prescriptions, thin corneas or dry eye syndrome may be EVO ICL candidates.

The typical candidate would wear glasses or corrective lenses, like contacts. Unlike some other vision correction procedures, age is less of a factor for this procedure. If you have been told you are not a candidate for LASIK or other laser eye surgery in the past, this may be the perfect procedure for you!

Is it Safe?

EVO ICL has an excellent track record, with over 3 million ICL lenses implanted to date in 76 different countries. The procedure is also removable; the lens can be removed at any time for added peace of mind and does not permanently change the shape or structure of the eye, so your eye is still your eye.

How It Works

The EVO ICL is a relatively quick procedure – typically under 10 minutes per eye.  Once your ClearSight doctor has determined your prescription, a lens specific to you will be selected.  Your surgeon will then make a small opening on the side of the cornea, insert the lens behind the colored part of the eye, and then make sure it is positioned perfectly.

Most patients are able to see a significant improvement immediately!

STEP ONE

Your custom EVO ICL lens is selected and prepared for your treatment.

STEP TWO

Your surgeon delicately places your ICL through a tiny incision behind your iris.

STEP THREE

Your ICL is perfectly positioned, and you'll be able to see more clearly immediately!

More FAQs about EVO Visian ICL

HOW LONG DOES EVO ICL LAST?

The EVO ICL is designed to be a long-term solution for vision correction. But unlike other methods, the ICL may be removed for added peace of mind. With over 3 million EVO ICL lenses implanted, many people’s futures seem to be clearer, brighter, and sharper.

Once the biocompatible implantable collamer lens implantation is complete, the EVO ICL lens does not move, and you should not be able to feel or see it.

The EVO ICL is designed to not interfere with any of the eye’s structures and maintain its place on its own. It is implanted between the patient’s natural crystalline lens and the iris (colored part of the eye). The EVO is biocompatible and once it is in place it does not move.
You should inquire about the EVO ICL even if your eye doctor has advised against LASIK or PRK since it is effective for individuals with a variety of lifestyles and vision goals. EVO ICL has been designed to treat moderate myopia (nearsightedness) and even high myopia and is also an option if you have thin corneas. It can also treat myopic astigmatism and moderate myopic astigmatism.
The EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens) is an additive technology that corrects eyesight without removing any corneal tissue, in contrast to several other vision correction solutions. Unlike other permanent types of vision correction surgery, the EVO lenses are removable and designed to lessen or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.

With and without astigmatism, the FDA has approved EVO ICL for a variety of myopic (nearsightedness) correction needs. Even though EVO ICL is less advertised than LASIK or other treatments, it has long been shown to be secure, safe, reliable, and no adverse effects. At your evaluation appointment, your ClearSight eye surgeon will go through and discuss any potential risks related to EVO ICL and make sure you feel confident about your decision to have vision correction surgery.

Before approving the EVO ICL, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) investigated it for many years in the clinical trials. Prior to FDA approval in the United States, EVO ICLs had also been used for over ten years in Europe and Asia, where a lengthy 10-year study had shown their stability and safety. In this research, there were no long-term problems and no incidence of infection or cataract development throughout the 10-year follow-up period. Worldwide, more than a million EVO operations have been performed. The ICL, EVO’s predecessor, has been in use in the US since 2005 and has almost the same safety record.

The lens’ full detachability is one of EVO ICL’s many advantages. ICL lenses are worn permanently by the vast majority of patients. However, you can be reassured to know that you have the choice to remove them if your prescription (refraction) changes or if any other health issues arise. Despite the low likelihood of needing them removed, it is reassuring to have the option.
Myopia and high myopia (seeing things in a distance is difficult) are both corrected with EVO ICL procedures. Hyperopia (farsightedness, meaning reading and viewing close objects is challenging) is not corrected with EVO ICL. Presbyopia, a loss of reading vision that is a normal part of aging, is another condition that EVO Visian ICLs can not address.
The majority of patients feel little to no pain during or after surgery. Some patients report feeling pressure on their eyes, although they do not state that it is painful. Because the EVO ICL technique only requires a small, self-healing incision, it often causes less discomfort and requires less time to recuperate than some other vision correction procedures.
The majority of Implantable Collamer Lens procedures are finished in about 15 minutes. Almost immediately, patients notice a remarkable improvement in their vision. You will be amazed at how clear and improved your vision is right after surgery. The next day, you will likely be able to go back to their jobs or regular activities with your visual acuity approving each day.

In order to correct myopia and myopic astigmatism, the EVO ICL, sometimes called implantable contact lens, is implanted in a patient’s eye. Up to 20D of myopia and up to 4D of astigmatism may be treated with the EVO ICL medical procedure. The best approach to determine whether EVO ICL is appropriate for you is to arrange a consultation during which you may discuss your vision correction options with the ClearSight team.

If any of the following apply, EVO ICL may be right for you:

    • You’re searching for a vision correction treatment for moderate to severe nearsightedness (with or without astigmatism)
    • Your prescription has not changed considerably in the last 12 months.
    • Your eyes are in good health besides being nearsighted or astigmatic

The majority of patients return to their regular routines right away after eye surgery. However, there are a few things that should be avoided. For at least a week after surgery, you should refrain from rubbing or bumping your eyes, lifting objects weighing more than 20 pounds, going swimming, using hot tubs, engaging in water sports, or putting water or soap in their eyes directly. It’s crucial to refrain from rubbing your eyes for a week after surgery. After the initial recovery period, it will not be particularly harmful to rub your eyes. Because the ICL is located deep within the eye, far from the surface, it cannot be damaged by contact. It should be emphasized though that generally it is never a good idea to touch your eyes.
