OUr Exam Process

“It was awesome! I was amazed by what I learned and the experience was painless!”
– Van W., ClearSight Patient

No Puffs & No Dilation

Comprehensive & Comfortable

Why does the exam matter? This brings to mind the old adage – “to a person with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” We believe the same for modern vision correction. We have been leaders in LASIK for decades, but LASIK is not the best for everyone. That’s why we’ve invested in the latest in eye exam technology to determine not only candidacy for vision correction, but candidacy for which one!

Our Exam Technology

Next-Generation Diagnostics

Topography

Topography is a measurement of the hills and valleys of the cornea. It’s important to know this so as to choose the best type of LASIK as well as if those hills and valleys need to be treated for the best vision. It also tells us if someone has an abnormal cornea and may not be a suitable candidate for laser vision correction. It also helps us determine which lens a patient qualifies for in custom lens replacement or advanced cataract surgery!

Tomography

If topography is important, tomography takes it one step further. Tomography gives a 3 dimensional picture of your cornea helping your surgeon know the amount of laser vision correction can be safely done. It also looks for subtle changes in the back of the cornea allowing your surgeon to again determine if laser vision correction is safe

Epithelial Thickness

Epithelial thickness mapping is one of the latest technologies that can assist with determining candidacy. What’s exciting about this technology is that we can now look at the thin layer of cells on the surface of the cornea and determine if there is a potential problem in the future for someone. Even more exciting though is that it allows us to look at an even finer detail than ever before meaning that some people who had been told they might not be a candidate may now that we have even better information. Many LASIK practices do not have access to this technology, but we feel it should be standard!

Autorefraction

Most people don’t like the “better one or better two” test. Truth be told it can be important. We know that it can be difficult. Thankfully we have autorefraction to give us an objective measurement to confirm that that test was done perfectly!

Back of the Eye/Retina

The eye is an optical system. That means that there are many parts to the eye that all have to work together to provide an optimal visual result! The retina is the part of the eye that collects the image and then sends it to the brain. To say it is important is an understatement! That’s why we have invested in technology to allow us to look at this part of the eye in totality. This is important in making sure that LASIK will provide a good outcome and even more important when determining what lens a patient may qualify for in custom lens replacement or advanced cataract surgery.

Biometry

Choosing the best lens for someone undergoing custom lens replacement or advanced cataract surgery is incredibly important. The best biometers can use light to determine the best power, astigmatism treatment, and orientation used in surgery. Ours even allows for augmented reality, so your surgeon can see an overlay of your astigmatism and map of surgery on your eye during the procedure!
