More Details about All-Laser LASIK
What Makes It "Modern"?
LASIK has never been better. At ClearSight we’ve invested in the latest generations of LASIK technology. This means that we have diagnostics and lasers that can not only treat your prescription, we can also treat minor imperfections or “aberrations” improving your chances of seeing better than 20/20! Our flap creating lasers are also the lowest energy on the market meaning that the procedure is gentle to the cornea and allows for the fastest visual recovery! In fact, most people find that their vision is better than they had with glasses or contacts when they’re done!
What about “Blended LASIK?”
Blended LASIK is a customized option for patients 40+ who have started to suffer from the need for readers or bifocals, also known as “presbyopia.” Presbyopia happens to all of us eventually and is the result of the natural lens inside the eye losing the flexibility it once had.
Based on your prescription and your goals, you and your surgeon will customize the vision in each eye. This means that a specific amount of nearsightedness will be left in one of your eyes to reduce or eliminate the need for readers. This may seem weird at first, but almost everyone can adjust to this over time. In rare cases where adjusting is a challenge, ClearSight will adjust your slightly nearsighted eye for distance at no cost with the understanding that reading glasses may be needed.
Can I have LASIK after cataract surgery?
In a word – Yes! In fact some of our happiest LASIK patients have been those who have been less than satisfied with the results of their cataract surgery and had great results after LASIK. Just like we can optimize vision after CLR and premium cataract surgery at ClearSight, we can usually optimize if it’s done somewhere else. Of course all the same candidacy criteria apply, so the only way to know for sure is to come in for an exam.
How it works
Modern LASIK is a three step procedure. The first step consists of a laser creating a natural bandage, or “flap” on the clear window of the eye or “cornea.” The second laser uses thousands of gentle pulses to reshape the surface of the eye based on your prescription. The flap is then replaced, and you are on your way to good vision!

STEP TWO

STEP THREE

Technology Matters
Getting to the best vision possible - Often better than 20/20!
Technology has always been extremely important in vision correction, and ClearSight has recognized that from the beginning. This is why we have so many vision correction options, so that we can make sure that everyone who walks through our doors will get the best vision possible. It also means most people are a candidate for something and that the majority of our patients achieve vision that is better than 20/20!
Is LASIK Safe?
In a word – Yes! – but not for everyone. For people who are good candidates, the rate of a significant complication is less than 1%. (National Eye Institute; n.d.; About PROWL. National Eye Institute.) That’s why it’s so important to make sure you’re not only a candidate for vision correction, but for what kind! Our vision correction team is dedicated to you along your entire vision correction journey until you are 100% satisfied!

WHAT IS LASIK?
The term “LASIK,” which stands for “Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis,” (also known as in situ keratomileusis) refers to one of the most popular surgical techniques used today. Sub-Bowman keratomileusis (SBK) or “thin flap (surgery)” LASIK and the type of LASIK we perform most often at ClearSight, is a more recent variation of this laser vision correction technique, is equally effective for treating farsightedness (hyperopia), nearsightedness (myopia), presbyopia, and astigmatism.
An advanced analysis of your eye that thoroughly maps, with corneal topography, the inside and surface of your eye gives our doctors at ClearSight LASIK the ability to achieve total accuracy during your LASIK procedure. With these advancements in technology, many patients who were formerly told they were ineligible for LASIK eye surgery or one of the six current LASIK alternatives because they were too old, too young, or had astigmatism are now candidates.
HOW IS CUSTOMIZED ALL-LASER LASIK DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL LASIK?
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE FOR CUSTOM ALL-LASER LASIK SURGERY?
After having LASIK, recovery is a quick and simple procedure. Within a day or two following custom laser eye surgery, the majority of patients resume most of their normal activities. After LASIK, most individuals can see properly within 48 hours, but it takes three to six months for your improved vision to settle completely.
In the weeks after laser vision correction surgery, you may notice some glare during your healing phase, but you’ll continue to see benefits on a daily basis. You will also want to make sure that you do not participate in contact sports, wear eye makeup and swim for 24 hours to 1 week, depending on what procedure you have. Recovery after LASIK laser eye surgery is often a simple procedure as long as you adhere to the instructions given by your physician, use the medicated eye drops, and make sure to safeguard your eye. You will return to your eye doctor for an eye exam after surgery when directed by your LASIK surgeon.

WHAT IS SBK?
WHAT IS WAVEFRONT?
The most recent LASIK technology is called Wavefront optimized LASIK. By giving the most accurate representation of the human eye while planning the entire procedure, Wavefront gives options to help map the eye and support laser eye surgery. Wavefront-optimized, wavefront-guided, and topography-guided LASIK treatments are used to achieve this, providing each patient with a totally individualized course of treatment. The comprehensive map of the cornea provided by wavefront-guided LASIK surgery is comparable to a topographical map for your surgeon. Your surgeon can see and plan for even the smallest variances or complexities thanks to this map.
LASIK with wavefront optimization makes it feasible to keep the natural shape of your cornea, remove the smallest amount of tissue possible, which was previously not possible.
DOES IT HURT?
HOW MUCH WILL MY PROCEDURE COST?
Your treatment is based on your unique visual needs and your prescription (refractive error), so pricing varies. At your exam we will give you a custom quote for your recommended treatment. We will also explain our low monthly payment options, which we offer for all of our refractive procedures.
Most insurance does not cover LASIK, but may offer a possible savings as an incentive to help you become glasses free!
WILL I STILL HAVE TO WEAR GLASSES?
Our goal is to get you out of glasses completely. That is why we offer our 20/20 or it’s FREE commitment – if you aren’t seeing 20/20 or better after your procedure, we will refund your entire procedure cost.

CAN LASIK GET RID OF READERS AND BIFOCALS?
While LASIK is a fantastic procedure that corrects your distance vision, it can not help with readers and bifocals. Don’t worry though, we can still help! We also specialize in correction solutions for patients who want to get rid of readers and bifocals.
WHAT ARE THE LASIK RISKS? ARE YOUR PROCEDURES SAFE?
All-Laser LASIK is widely considered to be very safe. This procedure has been performed over 40 million times worldwide and has a very low risk of complications.
However, nothing in life is risk free, and the same is true for all medical procedures. One of the possible risks is an infection of the eye, but as long as you use the medication (eye drops), follow the instructions from your eye surgeon, and safeguard your eyes, your chances will be very slight.
But studies have shown that vision correction procedures including LASIK, EVO ICL, SMILE, and PRK are actually safer than wearing contacts over time. Most of our staff, including every one of our surgeons, has had vision correction with great results and no major complications. Our procedures have all been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and all of the risks and benefits evaluated.
Of the more than 10,000,000 Americans who have had LASIK since the 90’s, experienced surgeons have reported a less than 3% complication rate. Those complications were mostly related to quality of vision issues such as dry eyes and reduced night vision, and even these side effects have significantly improved with advances in technology.
Studies show that there is more risk from prolonged use of contacts than something going wrong during the LASIK procedure.
WHAT DOES THE 20/20 COMMITMENT REALLY MEAN?
Our 20/20 Money Back Commitment means that if you have 20/20 vision with your glasses or contacts, we’ll help you achieve 20/20 vision without them after your procedure with us. If not, we’ll refund your fee in full. This Money Back Commitment exists to assure you that you’ll achieve the vision you want. This commitment, which is only offered at a handful of eye centers nationwide, is offered on all LASIK, SMILE, PRK, and EVO Visian ICL procedures performed at ClearSight. See our written vision plans for full details.
